Kenagh Notes 30-08-2010

Lotto 29th August 2010: The numbers drawn were 9, 13, 20 & 23. There were 2 match 3 winners. They are shane McEntee from Kenagh & Seamus Molloy from Abbeyshrule. Next week's jackpot is 4200 euro and the draw will be held in O'Boyles.
Our intermediate footballers played out a draw against Forgney on Sunday last in their second last game of the season. They were struggling for numbers but managed to assemble a reasonably decent side to put it up to Forgney.
Hard luck to our U-16 team who lost out narrowly to St.Vincent's on a scoreline of 2-6 to 1-5. This was a hugely disappointing result as they were amalgamated with Ballymahon & Forgney and it was hoped that this team could go all the way to the final.
Congratulations to John & Stephanie O'Hanlon on the birth of their baby girl Ellie.
Also, congratulations to Karen & Mervyn Johnston (Smith) on the birth of their baby boy Elliott.
Well done to Marie Duignan who had the great fortune to win the big prize at bingo in Coole, Co. Westmeath.

Kenagh Notes 23/08/2010

Congratulations to our Under 14 Team who beat Ballymahon in the Championship Final in Pearse Park on Monday last. The team played exceptionally well to win on a scoreline of 2-5 to 9 points. The team were as follows: Cian Carberry, Peter Carberry, Ruari Carberry, Andrew Cox(c), Tommy Cunningham, Liam Clyne, Lee Ross Gill, James Higgins, Cathal Hughes, Daniel Kelly, Josh Madigan, Anthony McCormack, Thomas McGann, Brian O'Boyle, Brian Penrose and Brendan Wallace. We are extremely proud of the lads and would like to thank their mentors and anybody who helped out with the team this year.
We would like to congratulate Damian & Deirdre Carberry on the birth of their baby Aran.
We would like to bring it to the attention of the community that there has been a lot of vandalism carried out against the club recently. There were a number of windows broken in the clubhouse in the past two weeks. There has also been a notable increase in littering around the stand and dug-out areas. The club urge people to be vigilant and to report anything that they may witness to a member of the club. We do not condone this behaviour and will have no option but to report any future acts of this nature to the relevant authorities.

Kenagh Notes 09/08/2010

Lotto 08th August 2010 - The numbers drawn were 4, 9, 10 & 20. There were 3 match 3 winners. They are Michael Finn Junior, Timmy Nolan & Louis Kemayon C/O Sean Canavan. Next week's jackpot is €3900 and the draw will be held in Newman's.
Our Junior team played against Young Grattans in the first round of the Junior A Championship two weeks ago in Moydow. This was a very entertaining game which was watched by a large number of supporters. The lads did not disappoint and produced a great performance to beat the Stonepark team. It was great to see so many players turn up for this game and we hope to see more of them down at training in the future as it is clear that there is plenty of football in them.
They played against a well fancied Carrickedmond team on Wednesday last but were unable to reproduce the same type of performance which saw them beat Young Grattans so emphatically the previous week. It was clear that Carrickedmond had prepared well for this match and, based on this display, should go a long way in this year's championship.
Our Intermediate team played against Young Grattans in the second round of the Intermediate Football Championship on Friday last in Ballymahon. The lads were hopeful that they could reignite their championship hopes after being beaten by Legan in the first round. This was not to be, however, as Young Grattans were a lot stronger in the breakdown and played the better football throughout the match. The lads showed some determination but could not get any sort of hold on the game in what were very slippery conditions. This all but ends our championship hopes for this year in what has been one of the most disappointing championship campaigns for a long time. We commend the lads for all of the effort they have put into training so far this year. We can only hope that they can turn things around for the remainder of the season and put some pride back into the club.
Congratulations to Jeffrey Hall & his partner Sharon on the birth of their baby Daughter Emily. We are glad to hear that both Mother and Baby are doing well.
Also, Congratulations to Padraig & Caroline McDermott who got married on Thursday last.
We would like to wish the best of luck to Niall Doherty who is travelling to Norway for 6 months.

Kenagh Notes 12/07/2010

Lotto 11th July 2010: The numbers drawn from the drum were 4, 8, 23 & 29. There was one match three winner. She is Bernie Prendergast from Aghamore County Mayo. Next week's jackpot is 3400 euro and the draw will be held in Newman's.
There were no league matches this week as Longford were playing Down in the championship so there is nothing to report on the football front.
Our under 8 team travelled to Croke Park on Monday last to play a Laois team in a special tournament. They played very well and managed to win the game but the real treat was being able to play in such a fantastic stadium. The lucky ten who participated were Conor Hall, Kyle Hall, Melissa Hall, Patrick O'Brien , Frank & Charlie Patterson, Damian Higgins, Keelin McGann, Adam Flanagan and Ciara Farrell. Well done to everybody who took part, especially the organisers who did an excellent job to ensure that the day ran smoothly.

Our Division 4 team played a challenge match against Ardagh on Friday last. This was an entertaining match and we managed to come away with a victory. Well done to the management and team.

Lotto 27th June 2010: Last week's draw was held in Leavy's and the numbers drawn were 3, 11, 13 & 23. There were 2 match 3 winners. They are Bridie Nolan & Charlie Doyle. They both win 40 euro each. Next week's jackpot is 3200 euro and the draw will be held in the El Paso. We would like to welcome home our Chairman, Oliver Carberry, who spent a lengthy time in hospital recently. We are delighted to see him home and hope that he makes a full and speedy recovery.
We would like to remind you that our Under 8 team will be making a very special trip to the home of football, Croke Park, on July 5th as they represent Longford in a one day blitz. They will be playing against a Laois team. This is a very special opportunity for the team and we wish the best of luck to them, their parents and mentors who will be travelling with the team
Well done to the Longford lads who beat a well fancied Mayo team in Pearse Park on Sunday last. This was a hugely entertaining game and the lads played brilliantly to claim a major scalp in this year's championship. They play away to Down next in what will be another stern challenge for the team but one which they can definitely overcome. We wish them the best of luck and hope that the Longford supporters travel in their droves to the game.

Lotto 20th June 2010: The numbers drawn were 9, 16, 17 & 27. There was no overall winner and no match 3 winners and so 4 names were drawn from the drum. They are David Conlon, Dara McGann, Violet Neary & Josie Cooney. They each win 20 euro. Next week's jackpot is 3100 euro and the draw will be held in Leavy's.
Our Division 4 team played against Ballymahon on Saturday last. This was a great evening for a game and both teams did not disappoint as they played some lovely football in what was a very entertaining match. Kenagh were struggling for numbers but did not let that dampen their spirits. They started well and were ahead in the first half until Ballymahon scored an opportunistic goal before the break. The lads put in a brave effort but Ballymahon began to pull away in the latter stages as they appeared to possess that extra bit of fitness.
Our Under 8 team will be making a very special trip to the home of football, Croke Park, on July 5th as they represent Longford in a one day blitz. They will be playing against a Laois team. This is a very special opportunity for the team as not very many from Longford ever get the chance to score a point in Croke Park in July. We wish the best of luck to the team, their parents and mentors who will be travelling on a bus with the team.

Club Lotto 30th May 2010: The numbers drawn were 7, 8, 10 & 14. There was 1 match 3 winner.
They are Emma & Andrea Care Of Leavy's. Next week's jackpot is 2800 euro and the draw will be held in Doyle's.
Our Intermediate team had a good win against Young Grattans in the Division 2 league on Saturday last. They won on a score line of 1-9 to 7 points.
Well done to the lads. Hopefully this will be a huge confidence booster in the run up to the championship next month.
They are playing against Legan Sarsfields on Saturday next in Kenagh @7pm.
We are hoping for good turnout from our supporters.
Hard luck to the Schoolboy team who lost out to Cashel in the Schoolboy final last Friday week.
This was a hugely entertaining game and the lads were extremely unlucky not to bring home the silverware.
We are extremely proud of them for reaching the final and hopefully the lads can learn from their experience.
Kenagh GFC will be holding a Fun Run around Kenagh this weekend. The proceeds will go the Kenagh Social Club.
There will be a barbecue afterwards. Everyone is encouraged to attend and sponsorship forms can be got from Cyril Connor.

Kenagh GFC Notes 17/05/2010

Lotto May 16th 2010: The numbers drawn were 2, 3, 15 & 16. There was no overall winner and no match 3 winners. 4 names were drawn from the drum.
They are Troy Millar, Lorraine Kiernan, Louise Duignan & E Kelly. Next week's jackpot is 2600 euro and the draw will be held in Newman's.
Our Division 4 team lost out to Rathcline last Saturday. This was a disappointing result for us as we just didn't perform to our potential.
The lads have the opportunity to make amends for this loss as they play Ballymore away on Saturday next @7pm.
There were very few supporters at the last game and we would greatly appreciate a better turnout this week.
Well done to our Juvenile team who drew against Longford Slashers last Friday evening.
This was a great performance by the lads and a hugely entertaining match. we were unlucky not to get a victory in the end but Slashers rallied hard to get some late scores.
Our Schoolboy team are playing against Newtown Cashel in the Schoolboy Championship Final this Friday evening @7pm in Pearse Park.
We are hoping that all of our supporters can make the effort to come along to cheer on the stars of the future and that you bring anything in the house that's yellow & blue!
We want to wish the best of luck to all involved and really hope that they can bring home some silverware.

Lotto 28 March 2010: The numbers drawn were 14, 18, 21 & 30. There was 1 match 3 winner. He is Donal Rowan from Kiltaffery. He wins 75 euro.
Next week's jackpot stands at 10,900 euro and the draw will be held in Leavy's on Sunday night.
All members of the community are invited to the Annual Kenagh GFC Dinner Dance which will be held in Doyle's on Saturday May 1st.
There are a limited number of tickets available and so people are urged to contact Tess Doyle with regard to booking a place.
There is a development meeting on this Wednesday @8pm in the community centre. All members of the executive involved in the development are asked to attend.
Training continues this Tuesday @8pm for home based players and on Friday for everybody.
Our intermediate team have a game at home against Ballymore this Saturday evening @5pm. This is a vital game if we are to remain in pursuit of promotion.

Hard luck to Sean Percival and Robert Harrison who were part of the Ballymahon team who lost out to Clonakilty in the All-Ireland Schools Senior 'A' Championship semi-final on
Saturday last. They booked a place against the Munster champions after overcoming Cnoc Mhuire in the Leinster final.
Sean is the captain of this team and we are extremely proud of both players and what they have achieved.

We would like to wish the best of luck to Darren Carberry who has just signed for Bohemians Football Club in Dublin.
Darren was formerly with the underage setup of Longford Town FC before being selected to join Bohemians. This has to be seen as a step up the ladder in his soccer career.
I have been reliably informed that he will be attending trials for no less than Sunderland FC next month. This is a very exciting time for the lad and we hope that he gets
the opportunity to display his abilities and impress "Big Niall" while over there.
We also hope that Darren will continue to play for Kenagh in the coming years as there is a lot of strong talent coming through for the club.
Darren's family would like to take this opportunity to thank all of his mentors, both on and off the pitch.
We would like to mention that there are now four members of Kenagh GFC serving overseas for the Irish Defence Forces.
They are Trevor Walsh, Darren Farrell, Jason Rhatigan and Ronan Carberry. This is a very proud statistic for the club and we wish the lads, and their families,
the best of luck while they are away.
We trust that they will return safe and sound and in time to put on the football boots again this year.

Kenagh Notes 25/01/2010

As has been well documented, Kenagh GFC is embarking on a new development. This will include a new clubhouse, containing meeting rooms and a gym along with a floodlight walking track around the pitches. There will be a fundraising committee meeting for the new development on Wednesday night @8pm. All club members are expected to attend and we would encourage any other members of the community to attend also as the gym and walking track is an amenity which can be used by everybody.
The first committee meeting will be held on February 2nd at 8pm in the community center. Minor board officials will be elected at this meeting. All executive members are encouraged to attend.
Lastly, the first club training session will be held on Friday February 12th @8:30pm. This training is for all players from minor upwards.

Kenagh AGM Report

Lotto 17 January 2010 - The numbers drawn were 16, 19, 23 & 24. There were no winners and so 4 names were drawn from the drum. They are John Farrell, Mary Keenan, John Joe Whitlow & Jeanette Gill. They win €20 each.
The Kenagh GFC AGM was held on Saturday night, January 16th. There was a good turnout with some worthwhile feedback from our members. The meeting opened with a minutes silence for the deceased members of the community. The chairman then welcomed everybody and thanked everyone for their valuable help throughout the year. This was followed by the minutes from the 2009 AGM and a very comprehensive secretary's report on the 2009 season. The treasurer then gave a detailed outline of the finances for the year. This was followed by the election of officers which are listed as follows: Chairman-Oliver Carberry, Vice Chairman-Sean Miley, Secretary-Sean Canavan, Assistant Secretary-Enda McGann, Treasurers-Ciaran McEntee & Tess Doyle, Assistant Traeasurers-Micheal McCormack & Michael Duignan, PRO-John Rowan, Development Officer-Cyril Connor, Irish Language Officer-Dara McGann, Registrars-Tom Canavan & Alan Percival, County Board Delegates-Oliver Carberry, Sean Canavan & Cyril Connor, senior team Manager-Emmet Kenny, senior team selectors-Gerry McGann, Pat Tiernan & Cyril Connor, Junior/Div6 management-Michael Duignan, Liam Gerety, Brian Penrose & Pat Tiernan, U21 management-Sean Percival & Oliver Carberry.

There will be a fundraising meeting on Wednesday January 27th @ 8pm in the community center. All people who are interesting in helping out with the fundraising should attend.

Kenagh GFC Notes 21-12-2009

Lotto 14th December 2009: The numbers drawn were 5, 9, 15 & 28.
There was 1 match 3 winner. He is Lochlan Healy from Newtown Cashel and he wins €75.
We would like to thank all of our generous supporters who have helped the club immensely by playing our lotto each week. We are extremely grateful as this is a major source of funding for the club.
There will be a charity football match held on St. Stephen's Day @ 2:30 pm.
This is an excellent opportunity for people to work off those extra few pounds gained over the Christmas period. All club members and people from the wider community are encouraged to attend as there is usually a high standard of football on display with a competitive edge! There will be refreshments in Doyles pub afterwards and everybody is welcome to come along.
